Today I tried to fix my loose hood latch that would pop up whenever I hit a bump in the road. I tightened the latch pin down and closed the hood. It latched, and now I can not get it to release.
I have not tried anything to release it, other than pulling up on it. I will have to see if I can get it to release, but not until tomorrow.
Have you tried pushing down on the hood while working the release? Not clear if you mean the pin won't come out of the latch, or if the lever won't release the pin?
The pin on my hood is to long or high and over extends the top of the round rim
sometimes I use a screwdriver and reach from the grille to slide the pin over may need to remove the upper grille xmember to get arm in or my wife does it for me pic is over exaggerated to make my point
Tightening the spring too much can be problematic and dangerous. I had mine tightened too much as a quick fix for a hood alignment problem. I hit a bump in the road and the pin released. The safety on the flange of the hood is worthless. The hood lifted up broke the windshield and did some damage to the hood.
I do not know how your safety pin is attached but if it prevents the hood from lifting, you should be okay. I have since mounted a forward tilt kit for safety and peace of mind.

Both of my hoods have popped open on the PO and have been damaged I got a cheap safty pin installed Take the clip off before closing
Make note of the angle of that clip so I can get a finger in the loop from the right side hood hole
My hood keeps popping open while cruising down the road. Opposite problem to what you're having. Thankfully that little catch stops it from blowing fully open!
Bad body mounts can cause the hood to pop open. Slight looseness at the mounts translates into significant instability at the front of the long hood.

You will have to fiddle with getting the pin centered to get the hood to open. Then readjust it back to its previous settings. Then replace the worn mounts. Short term you can just try tightening them but the correct fix is to replace them. Also look for wallowed out frame mounts.
I agree with pete that there is a lot of movement and not allways in the same direction and that extra pin of mine may make things worse by restricting hood movement?
Was able to open hood by moving latch pin with a stick of wood. The latch pin was seated as Schoo's picture showed. The pin was adjusted way too loose, so I removed the jamb nut and screwed the pin down/in until the hood closed and latched. The pin should sit in the collar but not protrude above the rim. I
re-installed the jamb nut and put my strap on hood back in place.
I'm going to re-think the latching mechanism in the fall, but for now back to cruisin'.
I'm glad you got it open. These hoods did have a secondary safety latch, well they did when the left the factory. I've only seen pictures and have never seen a hood with one in place....lol
