I found a truck that fits pretty well what I was looking for. The only 3 things it doesnt have are marker lights, a block heater chord, and the 5th wheel package.
Can the OEM Ford 5th wheel package be added after market? I like how the system works with the goose neck and pucks all in one. I investigated several options for my last truck and I'm glad I didn't cross that bridge yet because that would all have gone bye bye with the truck too.
If the 5th wheel package can be added - any idea on the cost? When I was looking to get a hitch on my 2010 it was going to be around $500 for the parts on the truck and another $1200-1500 for a hitch. The 5th wheel package shows as about $350 as an OEM option if it is built with it. I did notice the bed is stamped for the pucks and goose neck, just not cut yet.

You can also use the B&W turnover kit, but you have to buy a fifth wheel adapter.
If you use the Reese kit you have to use their hitch ($$$$$) or you can get an adapter plate from Hensely for $560 shipped and use any hitch that fits standard rails (21") which is what I did. I like my old RBW hitch so I'll continue to use that. It would have cost me $450 to buy rails and a in-bed wiring socket and have it installed so for a little more I get the best of both worlds.
I ordered the Reese underbed rails and the Reese 18k Signature Hitch with Slider (preassembled) after I got my truck. The underbed rails are the same ones that Ford installs at the plant and they fit. The indents in the bed match up perfectly. At the time I ordered there weren't many options to choose from but I think there are more options aftermarket now.

Reason: spelling
The B&W Turnover Ball with the Companion fifth wheel hitch is an excellent product. The fifth wheel hitch is very stout and locks solidly. The entire assembly can be removed by one person in less than 10 minutes and leaves a clean and flat bed floor. Total installed cost is around $1400.
I didn't order mine with the prep package so I had to order and install myself back on september. It cost me $1700 total and I installed. I had the b&w with the companion in the last truck and I like this one multiple times better. Its probably closer to $2000 shipped now for some reason. My buddy just traded his chevy in today for a new gmc and they are installing the Reese elite tuesday morning because he likes mine so much more than his b&w setup.
I would be curious as to why it is so expensive. The factory option is only $350?
From FordTrucks.com Build & Price:
5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Trailer Tow Prep Package $370
5th-Wheel Hitch Kit $1,695
Gooseneck Hitch Kit $270
You need both the prep package and either the gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch for a complete install.
I assume you are talking about SRW truck. If so, I use SuperGlide with SuperRails. And if Long bed I use Super 5th. This is what I've done. Pullrite makes all their hitches themselves in the USA. They are more expesive, and maybe a little heavier, but the design and quality are tops. The locking mechanism on the kingpin is tops They also have gooseneck adapter that sits on the SuperRails now, but I've never had one. Goodluck with the purchase of your truck. The planning and dreaming stages of a new truck purchase are a lot of fun, but the driving of one is even better. A great holiday weekend to all!!!
I have the B&W gooseneck with companion 5th wheel hitch in mine and would not even consider anything else. It is an excellent hitch with regard to quality, convenience and it fits like a factory installation. This is a link to an installation video - at the end of the video he hooks up to the trailer with the Companion.
Just out of curiosity - what kind of bed liner works best with the stock hitch package? Has anyone ever used a plastic bed liner or does everyone have the spray-on liners?
Reason I ask is I have always had plastic bed liners and tend to prefer them over the spray-on's. Then again, I've never cut holes in them either (other than the holes or pockets for the tie down loops).
