So my friend is going to be changing his fuel pump this weekend and we would like to know if there is anything special we should know before we just dive into this. Like a special tool or do I need to worry about gas pouring out with the pressure?
Are you changing the in-tank pump or the one on the frame rail outside the tank?
No special tools, just make sure you remove the plastic clips from the lines before you pull them off. If you break any of the clips, you can buy replacements at a parts store. The pressure will bleed off overnight if you let it sit. If you have pressure in the line, use the dump valve on a fuel pressure gauge to bleed it off or it will spray you when you open the line.
so to give a little more backround on the issue:
My 1987 F150 is having issues when running under a load. AT about 45-50 mph or going up hill, the engine sputters and lurches as if it is not getting enough fuel. At first I thought this lean condition was caused by a clogged fuel filter or bad gas, but after changing the filter, cleaning the injectors, and filling up with new gas, nothing has worked. Any idea?
