Pre Pump mod questions

Pre Pump mod questions
Ok I want to do the in tank/ Pre pump mods but I have a few questions.
First question does anyone know if this will screw up anything for emissions testing?
Second question will this improve or decrease fuel millage?
Im going to go with a 100 micron rating filter what is a good brand and also for a pre pump what is a good reliable brand that is not over kill on price.
Also Can i mount the pre pump directly in line with the factory pump on the frame and is there a certain distance that i should mount the pre pump from the factory pump or tank?
Last but not least the new filter will go before both pumps right?
Also anything special to look for in the filter or pump I know the pump should be low in psi like 5 psi and around 75 GPH

-No it will not. Your simply eliminating air from the fuel system

-Yes you can mount it directly to the frame before the pump. The directions that came with my kit from diesel manor had no mention of a specified maximum or minimum distance from the pump. I installed mine in an accessible location.

Redneckboy, I think the mod you're referring to is called a lift pump mod.
The prepump mod is just the elimination of air leaks and a filter.
In-tank is the removal of the mixing chamber.
Put Lift-pump in your subject you may get better responses.

I will try and answer your questions as I read them first, no it won't affect your emissions so your good on that, if it changes your fuel economy it will be improved, I went with a 75 micron inline filter that is stainless mesh type that can be cleaned and mine is a system one filter little pricey but just clean it and keep going. and Lastly on the prepump, pump mod I believe cookie went with a carter 72gph pump, I personally went with a holley red pump that is 97gph both will work probably equally as well and neither one is too expensive. Yes you put them inline on the frame, and the best place for the prepump is as close to the tank as you can get it. And lastly both me and cookie put the filter between the 2 pumps so it's after the low preasure prepump, and before the main high preasure factory pump.
Also as a note I did away with the factory hard fuel line one it's too small 5/16" and the hose you have to use on both the pump and tank fitting is 3/8" so it's a loose fit, and secondly by putting in one line like that does away with a couple of possible leak locations, and thirdly it makes it much easier for installing the prepump, and filter. Just be sure to use diesel rated or Fuel injection rated hose for this application.

Cheaper by quite a margin over all those other ones, Carquest was the highest at $9 plus. Napa had none in stock. Just some thoughts if you consider fabbing your system. A call or two can save quite a bit.
