1964 223 fuel pump problem

Ok I have one of the orignal glass bowl fuel pumps on this truck and have been starting it on the weekends to keep it running. I noticed tonight while showing someone my progress that I have some gas leaking from the upper and lower seal. I know I can try to torque the upper diaphram screws some more maybe, but the lower seal looked like it requires a special screw driver to tighten. I would like to keep the original pump, is there anywhere to buy replacement diaphrams/seals and that special tool for the middle seal? I know I can buy a replacement pump, but would like to make that a last resort. Thanks.

Check with Mac's auto parts and other aftermarket suppliers, I'm not that knowledgeable on 223 style fuel pump's; but I also recommend checking out the 200 thru 300 cid engine forum for possible answer.
So for not having a better solution...

I checked macs and he has the replacement pump like the other suppliers I've checked on. Ordered a catolog while I was there. Thanks.

OK I found a solution. If someone reads this in the future I'll let you know what I did. I went and bought a replacement fuel pump for $36 from a local parts place. While looking at this replacement pump the bottom section can be removed and your original glass bowl section will screw onto the new pump. This way you have a new diaphram and center gasket. The only seal you don't have is the cork seal that seals the glass bowl. Mine was still good, but you could buy some replacement cork material and make your own seal if needed. As for that funny shaped screw, I found a flat head screw driver that would wedge into the slot and let me turn it. The replacement pump comes with a screw that is too long for the original glass bowl section to make a snug fit so save that funny shaped screw because you will need it.

I know some folks will think I'm crazy, but I realy like the look of the original pump on there.

If you find yourself in need of a cork bowl gasket, you may be able to find one at a farm store or implement dealer. There are not that many different sizes of glass bowls and there are alot of tractors still in service that use them.

I'm with ya on keeping it originial, I like the odd looks I even get from people, like when they see even a oil bath air breather.
Glad to hear ya found a solution to keep it originial......

Thanks for the tractor supply suggestion for the other seal. We have a new tractor supply store I'll have to check into later as needed.

I also like the original oil bath setup. I've read some suggestions on how to keep that original look with a paper element inside. If I had an extra oil bath I would try that but hate to take a chance modifying the only one I have.
