Exclamation HELP asap transmission problems need advice

I have a 1997 f150 4wd its automatic with button 4wd. I was recently driving it and all of a sudden it dont want to shift into drive but if you bring up the rpms for about a min it'll slowly get going. I've changed the transmission filter still doing the same. My buddy said i need to get a full service on my transmission. I dont know what to do I need some advice on what to do. I am now without a vehicle so the sooner the advice would be greatly appreciated thanks a bunch

filter ? i would be checking the oil condition and level. If level is full , you probably have bigger problems. If oil is burn, or lots of crud in it, you probably have bigger problems. How many miles ?

Is it a 4r70 or a e40d?
If you have a 4.6 it's the 4r70 and the 5.4 came with the bigger e40d in 97,98.
Sounds bad, you may be just wasting money on a filter or flush! ):

Im not an expert but if the fluid was not burnt and a new filter did not fix it, you have serious issues. I have rebuilt older ones, not sure if the newer ones have pumps etc. but it sounds to me like you need a new or rebuild. Sorry to say!
