This may have been discussed here already but this is my first post. I have a 2001 F150 Super Crew. The shift between 1st and 2nd is hard and there is sluggish accelleration from a stop. I have been told that it may be the solenoid valve but I don't know. The trans. was flushed at 60K miles, it has the original filter in it. Any advice is appreciated.
hmmn you say you had the trans flushed, but lefted the original filter in it. Might help it out if you changed the filter. Even though the trans got flushed, doesnt mean that the filter was flushed also, instead it would have just pick up more dirt and could be the reason for the poor shifting. Changing the filter would be my 1st start. Not a hard job to do , just a little messy is all. When you pull the old one out, make sure you retrieve the round gasket thats in the hole that the filter goes into. If it has never been changed it will be in there and needs to be removed before you put the new filter in it. Mine came out with the old filter. Start here and then let us know of your results. Then we can take it to the next step if theres no improvement.
I had the transmission serviced and found out afterward that it was flushed instead. Very pissed... I'll do it myself this weekend and let you know the results.
also check the 1-2 accumulator for a busted spring.the spring helps cushion the 1-2 shift and if it is broke then it will cause a ard shift.its at the left front of the trans after you drop the pan.its about the size of a silver dollar.all you will need is a pair of snap ring plyers.
I went to the parts store to get a filter and gasket kit and found out it was to large. Took it back and found that there is a deep and shallow pan callout. Apparently the shalow pan is for a 4.6L and the deep is for a 5.4L. I have a 5.4 L Triton, should I have the bigger Trans? The deep pan is square with a small rectangle cut out, the shallow pan is square with 2 angled corners. I noticed a TSB sticker on the side of the pan, but I did not record the number. Any idea what it is for?
did you remove the old filter and install the new filter then the pan would not seal? That happen to me, turned out when I pulled the old filter out the black plastic sealer stayed up in the tranny. Either you must remove the old plastic piece or install the new filter inside othe old plastic piece, (pain in the but to remove) once i installed the new fiter inside the old plastic piece it worked fine. worth a check
