Well my motor rebuild turned into the whole front end coming off the truck... the pass side bolt for the rad support broke off and my sledge hammer is no match for it. i was hoping to just knock the old bolt out and get a new bolt for it but am at a loss how to get the old bolt out without ruining the rubber bushing. anyone have any tips or tricks aside from heat to get it out? or do i just have to cut through it and get some new mounts for the rad support? any help and insight is greatly appreciated.. thanks
thats what i figured. none of the body mounts are in to bad of shape but i do need radius arm bushings and prolly I beam pivot bushing to. more for the list.. anyone know of place i would be able to get coil spring towers any cheaper than bronco graveyard? looking pretty rough
You could try LMC. Are yours rusted through? Ive been sanding and taking wire wheels to my frame and then coating it with some gloss black chasis paint. Looms brand new.
Well i been getting some stuff done on this thing. fixing the rear main turned into rebuilding the motor and putting a cam in it, cleaning up the frame, new coil towers, rubber brake lines and welding the rad support back together... and i got a set of wheels that im painting up to. got some pictures for ya'll if i can remember how to post them..
Sorry some are kinda crappy quality.. just from my phone. but shes coming along.
yeah.. i didnt realize how bad till i started chipping the rust away to find nothin left. i called around for prices on a new rad support. $240 for it. i dont got the money for it when i can weld it together for like $15 worth of wire and scrap steel. wont look as pretty but it will be strong for a while
well i got her running again! but i have the same tapping noise as i did before i rebuilt the motor.. its a little louder than a rocker tick and i dont know what else it could be. its got a fresh ground crank honed block new pistons resized the big end of all the rods new bearing ring and oil pump. the clearances were all good for the rods and mains and it has 50psi oil pressure at idle when warm. i am at a loss as to what would cause this noise. the best i can describe it as is a real loud lifter tick. but i even readjusted them with it running and could here when i loosened the adjuster a different ticking when i started getting to much clearance on the rocker. so if anyone can throw some ideas of what to check out i would be extremly grateful cause i dont know what it is now.. thank you
also it has new valves in the heads new seals and i checked and corrected the spring installed hieghts of all the valves. there are all within .010 of eachother. spring are only like 6000 miles old and were rated for .510 lift and i have .498 lift on the motor..
my buddy says it sounds more like a rotating noise. i think its more of a tapping noise.. could a throughout bearing cause a taping and or rataing noise if it somehow got a flat spot or something? he thinks it has somethin to do with the trans butt the noise dosnt change at all well holding the clutch down.
