radiator support

I recently got a rad. support from a doner truck at a salvage yard.
My truck is a 66 cc and support came from 63.
I can take care of old inner fender mounting hole due to differance on mounting betweem the two yeas. My question is that where radiator mounts. The new support has metal mounting brakets where the radiator goes and my old one does not have these. If i were to mount rad to this and install a shorter fan spacer, the rad looks funny due to it is to far back. I know that i should be able to cut off these brackets and go to original mounting but i just hate the thought of cutting up a good rad support. Is is in real good shape. Has one small rust spot on left rear, the rest is solid. Would be a easy repair.
Just wondered if anyone out there might have a 66 support in good shape to trade for a good 63. I would be willing to pay frieght. I will be getting pictures of the one i have for anyone interested. Just cant see cutting one up if someone else has one for trade and could use instead. Thank you.

I ran into the same thing when I replaced the radiator core support on my 66. I cut the brackets off the "new" one so that the radiator mounts just like it did on the origional core support. The brackets are spot-welded on. A few hits with a sharp chisel or air hammer and they're gone!

Believe the radiator supports are only interchangable between the 65 and 66, and then between certain models. i would attempt to locate 66 support. Come across them fairly often. Probably could get the early model support to work, but may require 'a bit' of modification. Have a 65 f100 standard and took 66 f250 custom support off donor truck. Experience some problems with the inner fenders, and in particularily when it came to aligning the doors and fenders. If you are going to replace the support bushings, compare to original. i purchase set from catalog where rubber bushing/spacers were thinner than original. Did not realize until the alignment became an issue. Eventually had to purchased the correct ones.

Anyhow, not sure much help, hopefully another member with more experience can provide additional info, and or suggestions.

good luck,
dave

I would think if you are not in a great hurry you might be able to find another radiator core support for your 1966 and you could make $200 to $300 selling that one on Ebay.

'66 core support is much harder to find than the 61-64 type. I'd modify it to work.
