I taped into an ignition power wire instead of the reverse wire to power the camera because I wanted to view the image even if the truck was not in reverse. This means the camera is on when the truck is on and I simply select camera view on the stereo in order to view the image.
I have a manual transmission and this works very well when hooking up to my trailer. Just another idea to think about.
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, leaving it powered on all the time is not feasible. On the head unit I have, the Pioneer AVHX2700BS, when that wire is energized the screen goes full-screen to the rear camera and stays there until that wire is powered off. If I left that wire powered on all the time I'd not be able to use any other head unit function.
The Pioneer does allow me to use the menus to go to a separate video input, but I have no need to keep the rear camera powered on all the time: I have a wireless camera on the aft edge of my enclosed auto trailer that feeds into a rearview mirror display. When the trailer's wireless is broadcasting it shows up there.
All I need today's camera install for is backing up to connect the trailer and for seeing what's back there when I'm reversing. Having it powered on and displaying only when in reverse works best for me.
I'll get motivated soon to find the right wire. Or I'll run one from the back.
Unfortunately the clear pictures in post 12 do not show the correct wire. While it is the correct color, that plug is not the backup wire, instead it is Connector 219, which contains the key in warning circuit.
The circuit we need for reverse power is circuit 140, also black and pink, but instead it is accessible at connector 1049 further to the left side of the truck, or under the panel by the drivers side door, or in the passenger side A pillar which runs up to the auto dimming mirror. I hope to get clear pics soon from my 2001 Excursion.
Here's where I accessed mine. I could not find the Black/Pink wire in the Driver's side kick panel, but It was there on the Passenger's side where it ran up to the A pillar and eventually the rear view mirror.
I tapped into it just behind the kick panel and routed the wire up to the head unit.

That whole brown wire clip you know what’s it called and what it feeds?

I've attached two pictures - one for perspective and one closer up.
Assuming I found the correct wire, I hope this helps others.
Same here. Not the reverse wire on a 2006 F-250. When using a test light it causes the chimes in the truck to go off, and is always hot. Still looking for the reverse wire for this truck, and tried all the wires from the backup fuse to no avail.

@brewl Coincidentally, post #44 on this thread indicates the BK/PK wire is for the chime so your result with the test light confirms it. Here is a wiring diagram for a 2000 Superduty so take it with a pinch of salt. It appears the wire you want is the LB/PK one coming from the central junction box.
