I ended up stealing power from the black with pink trace wire that supplies power to my radio. I didn't trace it out to see if that is the same black w/pink trace wire pictured above.

Just had my local audio guy do mine, Pioneer AVIC 960 DAB, back up camera function is pretty cool, you can adjust the parking lines to suit the camera placement & the size of the vehicle. Also has pause & rewind on DAB radio, don't know if you have that over there as you have Sirius & we don't.

I got the Metra Installation kit makes it a neat install.

i have tried hooking up to the black/pink traced on my 02, but it is grounded, not hot. there are no hot wires coming out of my shifter to turn the camera on.
i am at a loss as to how you guys are using th black/pink wire

It is the same for the 02. It is a black wire with a pink trace. It is the wire from the transmission range selector and only allows current to flow when in reverse to allow the backup lights to turn on.

well on my 02 the black with pink trace is a ground .
i ended up using the black/light green in the loom behind the drivers kick panel that goes to the back of the truck.

everything works as it should now except for the camera. i have to do some diagnosing to see if it is a bad power connection at the rear light, or a bad camera.

no idea. all i know is the black/pink wire coming out of the shifter as shown in the pic in the other thread is a ground, not a hot wire.
i ended up grabbing power from the brown/orange wire in the loom going to the back of the truck under the driver side kick panel.

I know this is an older thread in the 7.3 forum but I just tried hooking up my back up camera. The black/pink wire in the photo is a switched ground in my truck. As soon as it is grounded the interior chime starts dinging. I would up just utilizing the upfitter 3 switch. Easy Peasy.

Thank you for the additional followup.

However, our 7.3 trucks were not available with the upfitter switches, those came a couple model years newer, so we wouldn't want someone looking around for that wire based on your post.

Again, thanks, and it might be better posted in the Six-Oh! forum.

I understand and I was only posting to point out that the black/pink wire in my truck was a ground, just like a previous posted had mentioned.

easy reverse wire

I have an 03 F250 6.0 and the black wire w/pink tracer shown in the photo is ground on mine as well. I used the black wire w/pink tracer that is under the driver side plastic sill cover to the outside of the driver's seat. The plastic cover is very simple to take off, in fact you don't have to completely remove it as it's flexible enough to just pop it up by pulling up with your fingers in the middle where you need access. If you tap into the black/pink wire that is in the bundle that comes from under the driver's seat, that is the back up light wire that you need for the back up camera. it's also very easy to run your wire under the sill and behind the kick-panel. I crossed it over to the carpet side and then just tucked the wire behind the kick-panel and worked the wire up near the firewall behind the e-brake bracket. I also wanted the ability to turn on the camera to check on my trailer/load when driving down the road so I installed an on-on toggle switch that allows you to switch between the normal mode (having the camera activate upon shifting into reverse) and instant on where the camera activates when you switch the toggle.

Old topic, but I'm pulling my hair out on this one. Numerous sources say this is the correct wire to enable the radio head to switch to the backup camera (which is being powered off the rear trailer plug output.) However, in my '01 Excursion this wire is solid to ground, and does not change state when I switch the column to reverse. Reverse lights are working correctly.

Can someone verify this is the correct wire for the '01 Excursion, and can you explain what this wire is supposed to do? It's a diesel, if that makes any difference.

Signed, Confused in CT...

Edit: just caught the posts above, I'll check for the wires in the kick panel. But if anyone has a certain answer on this, I'd appreciate it, I'm outside working on it as I type...Thanks!

Did you see my post #20? That's on an '01 Excursion.

Yes, but you didn't specify a color. Was yours black/pink?

I finished the install and put mine on a manual switch for now. I can easily go back and update that once the location and color is defined.

And as a postscript...the wire in back I used to power the camera...is black/pink.
