Hello, forum - Can someone tell me the Ford OEM power steering pump part no. for a 1989 Aerostar, 3.0 V-6, vin 'U' engine, a4ld transmission, extended passenger van (Eddie Bauer version)? Vehicle was manufactured in 07/89. Also, is there an online parts lookup for my '89 Aero?
Hi, xlt4wd90 - I use rockauto's parts online catalog for reference all the time, but, no go in this situation. They don't list an Motorcraft PS pump for '89; they do for a '90 (STP35RM) and later, but I don't know if it will work/fit/be compatible. My van is a late version '89, being built in 07/89, so, if someone knows if the part is compatible, that would be great. A1 Cardone lists a different part revision for their product, as of 03/'89, so maybe the '90 OEM part would work. I'd like to use OEM if possible; a lot of remanufactured PS pumps aren't very good.
The Motorcraft part is no longer available. If you can get a Delphi unit, that would be the next best. I hear you about the remans in general being terrible.
mike,
there should be a FoMoCo Motorcraft # on your pump.
call Rockauto and give them the #.
Motorcraft site no longer lists a pump for the 89 Aero.
RockAuto does show OEM part #s and pictures of the different Aero ps pump years.
try some of the online Ford dealer parts sites. some of them will pull old obsolete parts out of Motorcraft distribution warehouses and Ford dealer parts rooms buried in the back corner.
get ahold of memeber partsdummy on here, retired Ford dealer parts expert. he can find anything.
i agree with you, not worth the time and knuckle bleeding to put on most of these import rebuilds.
Learned my lesson on the cheapy import alternators, low output and they burn up.
most won't put out any amps until above 2000 rpm, cheap low copper alloy wire
Hello Khan.. & 96_4wdr - Thanks for your replies - After getting to a Ford parts guy and working with him, we figured that the 90 and later version should work out and is still available. I let everyone know if it does fit/work out. I getting one of the last two in Canada, so I'll be happy to replace my old one with an OEM remanufactured part after a system flush.
Re: alternators, starters - I've had good luck with Bosch remanufactured units so far, even though they are rebuilt in Mexico.
Hello, forum - I finally got around to installing the FoMoCo pump #STP35RM (meant for '90 and later years) on my '89 van. Everything worked out great. No problems with fit or function. Cheers, Mike
if you could post a picture of the upgrade newer model water pump in it's new home, sure would be good training for the new guys.
maybe encourage them into replacing the Mad Howler under the hood.
what brand of soup can did ya use to protect the fill snout from water drainage from vent above?
