Where is everyone mounting the switch? Mine has been lying on the dash for two weeks. I'm thinking of putting it next to the 4x4 **** and what about the LED, it looks like it just stuffs in a hole.
Diablo messed up, the whole set up needs some sort of face plate. So far i'm Impressed! I love the shifting. I drive 80% in the hills, it,s just a filling but it seems like the 54hp is better then the 78hp. How can this be?
I mounted mine on the dash just above the panel under the steering coulmn, to the left side and close to the column if that description makes since, was just easy to remove that panel and mount it there plus when you need to switch to the 78hp mode it's easy to slide your hand through the steering wheel and flip it with out being too obvious. I've seen them mounted by the headlight switch, and on the steering column underneath. the 54 feeling stronger make since to me, but only taking off ,I guess with a stock exhaust and intake there is a little too much fuel? if racing from a stop I take off in 54 and around 2500 rpm or so I'll flip to 78, pulls real nice in 78 mode but only if I have rpms built up over 2000 or so. 78hp mode seems to be really sluggish on a launch. next time you are on the highway get up to 70+ and floor it in 54 then flip over and you'll definately feel the difference. a little advice though,I don't recommend doing burnouts just because you can, I did several power brake burnouts with the speedo hitting 75-85 mph(have 2 bald tires to prove it) the 1st gear clutches and TC weren't too fond of it
I agree with scottincincinatti about why the truck seems to run better for you in 54hp mode. The assumption by the programmer is probably that you've got a fuel delivery system that can take full advantage of the increased fuel, but your injectors might not be able to deliver it, so you're over-fueling it in 78hp mode until you've got your rpms up in the higher gears.
Bull, I mounted mine by the 4x4 switch. I think it looks fine there, I also ran for about two weeks before I figured out where I wanted to mount it. I think the drill size for the LED and switch were 3/16's, just disconnect the LED from the switch drill the hole and press into hole, connect the LED back to the switch and mount the switch.
I put my switch on the A-pillar, right next to the pyrometer. My thinking was that if I was running too hot, I could find the switch easily while watching my EGT's. It turns out that I haven't had a temperature problem yet, but it has worked well for me.
Also, since it's in plain sight for passengers, they can see when I switch into the "Extreme" program, so they can cinch up their chin-straps.
on the 02 model if you dont have the adjustable pedals you can mount it in the spot for that switch. it is a plug that can be removed to the left of that "pocket" under the radio area convenient spot for my switch!
