Diablo Predator vs Edge Evolution?

I have a 2002 F-350 4x4 7.3 powerstroke auto.215.000m.I have been running the Diablo Predator for 4 years.Just recently sent it back to Diablo to update the new tunes.I have more power now but lost some mileage.I was thinking about switching to the Evolution if it had comperable power because I wanted the monitor with gauges(EGT,Fuel pressure, boost). What do ya'll think? Is there a gauge set-up that I can use with the Diablo.I am not a racer but need the power for pulling and mileage....Thanks

PIDS
The Evolution allows the user to view up to 4 PIDs at one time. There are 11 different PIDs to choose from. Below is a list and description of each:
• RPM (revolutions per minute) – Engine speed.
• MPH (miles per hour) – Note: Dash display may be +/-3 MPH off from the digital display due to mechanical differences in the spring, etc. used to control the gauge.
• ECT (engine coolant temperature) – Degrees F.
• BST (Boost Pressure) - PSI
• EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp) – Degrees F.
• EOT (Engine oil temperature) – Degrees F.

• DTC (Diagnostic trouble code count)

The following power gains are representative of an actual test vehicle. These gains were measured on a SuperFlow Dyno at an altitude of 4400 ft above sea level, and represent power delivered to the rear wheels of the test truck. The only modification made to the test truck was the addition of the Edge Evolution module. Power gains may vary based on vehicle and geographical location.

The Evolution is going to work about the same as the Predator. Companies such as Edge, Hypertech, Diablosport, Banks, and Superchips make generic tunes for the 7.3L. They all work about the same.

Most 7.3L owners prefer a chip and standard pillar gauges. Most popular chips are from DP-Tuner, Total Diesel Performance, and Diesel Innovations. These chips usually offer better tuning and more options. For example, a DP-Tuner chip can hold up to 16 different programs, and they are all switch on the fly. No waiting for the programmer to download a tune onto the PCM, just press a button while you are driving down the road and you are in a different setting.

Another benefit of a chip is that each program is specifically written for your PCM code, not just a range of years like Edge, Banks, etc. This gives you better transmission tuning, as well as timing control, fuel delivery, and EGT control. Many of these chips can run higher horsepower settings with less EGT's. You can search down in the 1999-2003 7.3L forum further down and see how many folks really like these chips, as well as the customer service they get.

Here are the links you can check out:

What's the verdict on these programmers? They seem pretty cool. Not a bad price either when you take into consideration that gauges are not needed with this unit.

Hi there,

If you're in the market for an Edge Programmer, I just wanted to make you aware that Power Hungry Performance sells a private labeled version -- the Gryphon -- that can be CUSTOM TUNED. We can replace one or all of the canned tunes with any of our standard calibrations. We can also tune for heavy mods, but those files require an additional custom tuning fee. Of course, the Gryphon also offers different gauges that you can monitor and a dash-mount pod, as well. The 7.3L and 6.0L Gryphons also include a thermocouple in the price.

We also sell TS 6-position chips under the name Phoenix Module. The benefit of a chip is that it can hold more calibrations and has the capability of switching-on-the-fly, so there are more calibrations available -- like WhisperMode™ and SmokeShow™. We've also recently lowered the price of the Phoenix!

They're both wonderful in their own unique respect. Feel free to ask questions if you feel I can help you in any way.

(Thanks, DCS!)

Since I have found out a little more about this particular item, I have been thinking is a little ad. smoke and mirrors.

The tuners with built in DTC readers such as this(including Banks, SCT, Bullydog etc) can only read generic DTCs, ones that are common accross the board no matter what manufactor it is. They, however, cannot read and clear manufactor specific codes, ones that are a little more nitty gritty codes, such as tranny codes or contribution/balance codes.

I really think that they need to re-word that, but it could just be me.

I can't speak for the other programmers, but I know that the DTCs for the Evolution and Gryphon come straight from Ford's DTC database.

Are you sure about that, because I know that they can't pick up the vgt code that my truck is throwing because I had one of the guys from the local shop for giggles hook up the "floor" unit after I found out that the SCT didn't read it(nor the cyclinder 7 code I had before that). I would make sure it still isn't a list of generic DTCs either that or we were messing with faulty ones.
