Some new “yet to be answered” chip questions.

First, a little background. I have a 2002 V10 and am trying to decide between the Diablo chip and the SCMT.

I've been looking at the pros and cons of both and have spent the last hour digging through the post in this area and have not been able to find the answers to some of my questions. Please read and comment on my findings.

Power
From what I've gathered the Diablo has the lead in this catagory. I have these questions about "open-loop" programming:
SCMT – Does the SCMT offer open loop programming?
Diablo – Does the Diablo offer open loop programming in both the stock and performance modes?

Transmission
It seems that the SCMT has the advantage here with the ability to adjust the shift pressure.
SCMT - Adjustable shift pressure. Is the shift pressure increased for non-WOT shifts, WOT shifts or both?
Diablo - Does the chip compare to the SCMT at a medium setting? Does the increased shift pressure apply to non-WOT shifts, WOT shifts or both?

I read this on a post: “Dealer reflashes your computer. This is a problem with chips, not with the Microtuner.” So does this mean I have to send in the Diablo chip to be reprogrammed?

I'm leaning towards the Diablo for it's lower price. It seems that one advantage of the SMCT is the ease of switching to 87/stock programming to save money on gas (or before taking to the dealer). I figure I would have to put alot of miles on the truck in the stock mode to make up the $100 saving by getting the Diablo and just leaving it in 100% of the time. Which brings up another question. Whats the install time for a chip in a super duty?

It seems that the Diablo is the way to go for me as I plan to put it in and leave it there. Am I missing anything?

Thanks for all your comments and insight,
Al

No. Only Diablo has this for the V10.

No. Stock is stock tuning. The stock setting effectively turns off the chip.

Both.

Diablo's shift is different. Its more a of a ramp thatn SCMT -- the harder you are on the throttle the firmer the shift should feel.

>Does the increased shift pressure

Both.

This statement isn't true for Diablo. With a Superchips chip, yes it would need to be reprogrammed. With Diablo we use a 4 bank code for V10s which is immune from reflashes.

Actually, the Diablo Delta is easier to switch --- just flip a switch. You can flip it between stock and performance modes in about 1/2 second. The SCMT requires you to pull a fuse and reprogram it back to stock (about 5 minutes). The SCMT does not have an 87 octane setting, either its programmed for 92 octane or its not programmed at all.

>Whats the install time for a chip in a super duty?

About 20-40 minutes, depending on your level of comfort doing it.
