Fuel Filter
I have a bit of a weird question. On my 02/ F350 I have a 100 gal tidy tank that is plumbed into the main truck fuel tank, this is a gravity feed system but the dealer who installed it had at first put a large canister type fuel filter on the fuel line. As he had put in the wrong style of tank as I wanted an L shape with dry box he changed it over and then put on a skimpy gas inline filter.
My problem seems to be that the diesel eats the gas type filter and with out any warning my fuel gage drops down from using the lower tank and can't refill from the tidy.
For examle 9:00 P.M Tue night put 300 Litres in was rolling out of Calgary AB 1/2 hout out my fuel gauge started dropping said a few choice words stopped to look for extra filter not to be found called my closest Canadain Tire store pleaded with them to wait for me to get there, got there a bit late but what ever, a very nice young apperentice saw me working under my truck and said that he would help as he was all ready dirty and that a lady should not have to do this.
What a big mistake that was, I explained that at this time I didn't have a shut off valve on the big tank and that he would have to crimp off the upper fuel line above the filter and below it so as not to lose much fuel handed him the vise grips and thought this is great. Next thing he's covered in fuel and it's pouring like a river under I go and find that he hasn't clamped off the line, I put one on for him and as it's still leaking he puts the other right under the hose clamp and spilts the line. Oh what fun were having now, being the concerned young man he was, out from under the truck he goes leaving me in my diesel shower, I finally managed to get the upper leak stopped , to find out that he was never taught righty tighty lefty losey.
I now have two spare filters and a nice shiny brass shut off value on my baby, But can any one tell me how to get the diesel smell out of my clothes, seat covers and just about every other part of my cab.
Lesson learned never take the easy way on repairs do it your self.
Lil
