I just pulled out a bad EGR cooler (120,000 miles) and replaced it with a Sinister Delete. When I start it I have a high pressure oil spray towards the back of the engine, seems like it's behind the turbo???
What did I forget to do or where would the likely culprit be?
To install the delete I removed the turbo, oil drain tube, loosened the intake manifold bolts on the drivers side, removed the manifold bolts from the passenger side.
Removed the EGR cooler, Installed the delete and then reinstalled everything else (torqued the manifold bolts to 120inlbs).
Maybe turbo drain tube, last time had mine off set it on thought tube was in turbo but it rolled to the side , had everything hooked up and dropped a bolt and while looking with light and magnet saw that it was not in lucky i dropped the bolt , might want to check.
Thanks Wulfman, first thing i checked was the tube, tricky to get it in and stay there while rolling the turbo on it. But it's seated correctly.
What about the intake manifold, i checked all the bolts, but if the gasket wasn't perfectly aligned could that cause my issue? The thing is I didn't pull the drivers side bolts out, only loosened??????
no oil running threw the intake. more then likly something you touched. most of the time its either the feed or return line from the turbo as stated prior
Mako did you do your oil cooler while you were there? It is the reason the egr cooler goes bad, i hope you did. I am no tech but have done all my own work so have been in there also, but i don't think its coming from intake manifold. I guess its running so i wouldn't think icp or ipr. I know this sounds dumb but oil filler cap, i pinched the o ring once and it leaked out back of motor
Wulfman - no, uggg... should I go back in and replace the oil cooler?
My thermostat stuck and caused the truck to over heat on the highway
That's what I thought caused the EGR cooler to go bad -
I'm wondering if I have two separate problems, if the intake side of the turbo is not 100% flush mounted could it make the high pressure hissing sound I"m hearing? I'll take a picture to show you...
Secondly, there could be a oil leak from somewhere else unrelated to the hissing...
Where is the oil cooler located, could it be spraying oil? Whatever it is, it's a pressure spray not a slow drip.
I have no idea where oil could be spraying from never heard one do that , maybe one of the techs could help with that one. Your thermo is one of the first i have heard that stuck open , most the time stick open they are made that way, and how do you know the egr cooler is bad is it the one with tubes inside.Call me a dumb **** i was thinking you had 03. yours 06 don't know what i was thinking. your 06 egr cooler they suck and more than likely oil cooler took it out. you need to see what oil temps are. And hissing turbo connections not right
