EGR Delete Questions

Hello,

I am about to order my EGR delete kit and Oil Cooler replacement kit. Before I place this order I would like to get some opinions on who to order it from. I have found a kit from Alpha Dog which retails for $369 but is currently on sale for $179. One of my questions - does anybody have experience with this particular kit or manufacturer? I will also be ordering the Mishimoto 200 thermostat and installing all this stuff, plus some others, next weekend.

Another question. I have watched a couple of videos where the EGR cooler was removed, ends welded and then replaced. Basically doing the same as a EGR delete but this particular method allows for the original EGR exhaust tube to remain in place and help support the turbo up tube and down tubes, taking the extra stress off the bellows. Has anybody performed this type of EGR delete? Has anybody had an issue with the bellows cracking after the EGR cooler was deleted and the new tube installed?

Thanks,
Jeff

I run an ADT EGR delete, the install was easy and craftsmanship was great. However, I had problems with the cheap hose clamps so I replaced them.

I would not spend my money on the Mishimoto 200° thermostat. With summer temperatures coming, the motor stays too warm. You can check out the 65 page thread on that.

After 3 years of my EGR delete, my factory bellows have held up with no indication of leaks but there is additional stress on it, so I'm sure some day the will need repaired.

Also on the ipr julie at sds said they worked with them over the years to tweak them here and there to get the fitment just right. The uppipe is also a superior product to use with the delete as well.

I would love to put in the Sinister EGR delete kit with new oil cooler but I just don't have the $660 to spend on it right now, wish I did.

Does anybody have a stock EGR cooler they no longer want/need and would be willing to part with? I think I will keep the stock EGR cooler but weld the openings closed and install a plug in the inlet tube to prevent fluid from lingering in the tube. My only reason for going this route is to keep the support location for the exhaust up-tube and the Y tubes bellows. If you live in the DFW area I will be able to come pickup the EGR cooler.

I am still going to replace the oil cooler. Along with this modification I will be completing the Blue Spring upgrade, 200 degree t-stat, new belts and hoses, and a few things under the truck which have been wearing out. I will be a full weekend of work. I will try to remember to take pictures and post them once all the work is completed.

Thank you,
Jeff

Yes. I will put a plug in the coolant inlet port for the cooler and weld it in place.

Don't. That will stop coolant flow through the oil cooler.

Oh, Ok. I thought that inlet tube was the point where it flowed through the EGR cooler not into the oil cooler. I'm glad you said that, it would have really sucked that afternoon.

It flows from the oil cooler to the EGR cooler and back, why the hose is included in an EGR delete kit.

I'll have an extra here in a few days, once I pull it off the old motor. I don't know what they're worth, or what to ask for it.
