have you checked the belt tensioner is the belt slipping on the water pump.
the only bad water pumps Iv seen leaked have you guys seen one with an internaly broke propeller or siezed pump witch should burn up the belt ???
you might want to consider a compression test if the other stuff checks out ok or before you tear it to far down
