ok, my truck overheated almost 2 weeks ago while towing a ferrari for a friend in a car trailer.. After compiling some research, I founf that because I have a complete EGR delete my truck over heated because the big fan's circuit wasnt completed due to the EGR's absence..
The next day on my way to work (with no trailer) it overheated twice... I let is sit for a couple days, filled it with ford gold antifreeze (it was a gallon and a half low) and its been fine since.. THEN the other day I notices it was blowing white smoke on start up... Now EVERY SINGLE time I start it it blows massive amounts of white smoke until it warms up..
Any iteas / comments / concerns??? What could it be?
Becasue the white smoke clears up after its warm. it leads me to belive you have at least 2 problems. I second takeing a look at the FICM voltage. But im inclined to think you make have a cracked head or heads as well.
As you can see, the EGR valve hole is welded shut.
So, are we saying that His 04 has the flash in it that causes the fan to not operate right, when the EGR is removed?
Then if so, are we suggesting that when He was towing, the fan didn't operate as it should and caused it to over heat? And when that happened, he now gets white smoke on startups because __________________________!
I'm just laying all this out, cause I don't know the answer to what I left blank. I'm just running this through my mind here.
I would get it cod read and check the ficm
and hope to pick up something there
I dont know if a cracked head or bad head gasket would leak coolant into a cylinder untill it gets warm and seals up and go away
theres no egr cooler to cause the smoke
cheezit had that vidio of a perssure gauge on coolant bottle it may shed a little light on the problem
or a cylider leakdown test
What would concern me is that the truck overheated a few times and lost coolant. Weather you have head studs or not, if the truck overheats you could have warped the heads and caused damage because the fan wasnt running.
I am willing to be that the heads are warped/cracked due to the fan not running which caused an over heat. Either way it needs to come apart again to be sure.
I have an 04 with 123,000 on it and have egr delete with the egr valve plugged in and also get white smoke on start up and have not overheated once warm goes away. I pull a 40 foot open range 5th wheel. So is it time for arps and gaskets?
