White smoke

I have seen some comments about the white smoke but none like mine. I have a 05 F350 Super Duty 6.0 with 78,500 miles on it. I bought it new. My question. The truck overheated, when you add more to the radiator, it blows it out the exhaust. The white smoke quits when its out of water, then it overheats. There is no water in the oil. We have checked the EGR valve and it is fine. The truck is out of warrenty so any suggestions would help. Thanks

Man what a joke. It is not IF but WHEN your EGR cooler/oil cooler will fail with these trucks.

Any car will break? Sure. But the same part failing on truck after truck after truck is a joke. I would guess even Ford agrees, considering "it's not their fault", as I've heard.

I was not calling the OP's ? a joke. The joke is the EGR/oil cooler. I am not trying to be rude, but I don't see how it is acceptable for so many trucks to have the exact same issue, and everyone seems to be "ok" with it. If a Tundra or Ridgeline or other make had similar consistent, recurring problems, people would be up in arms talking about the poor quality of said make. But from what I see here people simply blame it on International and not on Ford (IMHO it wears a FORD badge, the bucks stops at FORD).

In my humble opinion, this issue is ludicrous and unacceptable, at the same time surprising how everyone seems to give Ford a pass.

It's International's poor quality castings that are to blame, Ford doesn't forge the blocks. International made the motors, Ford only adapted them to their truck. That's why Ford finally engineered their own motor--the 6.7. In case you are unaware--International and Ford are/were at serious odds on warranty claims as Ford has had huge claims against International for the same thing. Ford may be "responsible" for contributing to the head gasket issues, but to blame them for the crappy castings is unreal. If you think the blocks are bad you should take a look at the inside of the intake manifolds and the heads. They look more like irony diecast (aka pot metal) than steel.
