if your instructions clearly say that the dot faces up, then install them with the dots facing up. The ones with the dots go closest to your bottom compression ring. so that would be on the TOP of your oil control ring. The rings without dots, it doesn't matter, either side up, like your instructions say. you probably know but be sure to offset the angles of the ring gaps. and what you have is probably cast iron with moly facing rings. solid moly rings are used for high-performance applications and require a very precise cylinder wall finish.

that's the point the instructions aren't very clear. The are in the last set of pics i posted. but you are telling me to put the ones with the dots in the second comp groove dot facing up and the not dots, in the first ring groove(at the top of the piston) bevel facing up?
I just installed Sealed Power rings and mine were marked... on the rings themselves... "up" in small letters in white paint and, I think they said "top groove" etc. Look at yours again. Mine were the premium set, E-447K but your oil rings look different than mine did.
In mine, the ring with the shinier, rounded outer surface is the top ring for the top groove and the more dark was the second. Dot always goes up when so marked and, on the second ring, the inner bevel goes up as shown in the pics on the instros. From your pics, it looks like you got them correctly in the box.
