piston ring spacing?

I have a ford book on this, but I don't quit understand. I already tossed the old pistons, would not want to rely on the spacing of those anyway, I wouldnt think. I have my new pistons and rings. Starting from the top of the piston, is it. compression ring (bevel facing up) - thin oil ring, oil ring spacer, thin oil ring, then compression ring (bevel facing down)? Book doesnt specify, and instructions with rings are really vague as well. What about spacing? my book, is really vague on that as well. the book diagram is in the pic. It calls out locations and rings not noted in the picture. A diagram with both compression rings, both oil rings and oil ring spacer would be helpful. Thanks fellass, Oh, and by the way, i have all my parts, just gotta start puttin her back together.

I have never had my 6.9 apart (knock on wood) but I would think the ring fitting order you posted is wrong. You should have top compression ring, second compression ring, then thin oil control ring, wavy ring, thin ring to complete the oil control ring in the lowest groove.
It should say on the compression rings which way up they go or have a dimple in them, the dimple should go to the top with one dimple for the top ring and two for the second ring.

Yeah, what LK said. And when putting rings on, rotate them around the piston so that the gaps in the compression rings don't line up, and the same with the 3 pieces of the oil ring assembly.

no dimples on these rings, just bevels.

Usually the reason for a bevel (sometimes a step) is to prevent new rings breaking on any ring ridge left on the bores. So the bevel would face up towards the top of the piston. If the second ring down is exactly the same thickness as the top ring they may just have included all top rings in the kit so the second ring down would also have the bevel facing towards the top of the piston.

so both bevels up. what about spacing around the circ of the piston?

let me ask yall this, in my book it says piston pin to rod is a interference fit. it even tells how to press them out. My new wrist pins slid right in, like a floating wrist pin. bushings looked good. just wondering, i dont think i have ever had to press wrist pins out and press them back in. Is that some kind of factory fit or something?

Ok, i will say it. I am a certifiable dumba**. In the first picture at the top you see the rings. In this picture you see the box, clearly marked which rings go where, just noticed that myself. Problem is i dont know which compartment they came out of. I do have 8 rings with a dot on them, 8 with out a dot. and oil rings and spacers. like the instructions say rings with a dot, dot goes up. this makes the bevel down. Rings with out a dot, bevel goes up. So, should the rings with the dot go in the first groove, that would make them bevel down. Second set of rings go bevel up, because they have no dot. Or is that backwards? heres the pic of the box, after i put the rings back in. Original spot, who knows. and a pic of the instructions. Hope you can make it out.

Do the instructions mean, the ones with the dot, go in the top groove? Help?
