larger wheel cylinders?

I know that I read Chevy from a certain year have larger wheel cylinders and will interchange with a dodge so that you will have better rear brakes. I was wondering if there was such an interchange for the ford brakes? I am wanting more braking power in the rear and I know the way to do it is put larger wheel cylinders. Another question I have is what happens when the rabs valve quits working?? Does it stop sending pressure to the rear brakes or do the rear brakes just lock up??

Did you get the ones wit E-brake? If so did you get the calipers that have the cable bracket already on it or not?

How does the e-brake hold with a load?

I had read about that before, but I was wondering if anyone had actually done it. I was also curious how the parking brake worked. Any info would be greatly appreciated here too.

I realize that drum brakes are extremely robust and long lasting, but I despise them. There's always that feeling of "I wonder if they're still well adjusted..."

I always heard when you convert to disc rears, these old trucks will constantly look up the rears and mess with the ABS. Thanks for any info.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

You could always buy premium shoes. They will grab better with the same wheel cylinder.

Neal, I got the ones with the E-brake and they came with the bracket on it. They hold a load really well. The only trouble I've had is sometimes the edge of the pads, the metal part, will rub on the rotor. That's a simple fix, just grind off the corners on the pads metal backing.

Dizzy, no lock ups and it doesn't mess with the ABS. You don't have to change the proportional value or add one. Just put them on.

With the real disks and the Hawk brake pads up front my truck stops really well. Next time I have to change the rear pads I'm going to see if Hawk makes a pad for them, I think they are great pads. TJ told me about them.

That sounds awesome but I'm afraid those disc brakes are worth more than my truck will ever be worth (: lol

Ya 89, you got my curiousity up so I looked in my records for a price but couldn't find a date. I've had the pickup for six years and it wasn't all that long after getting it I pulled the rear drums off to discover a oilly mess and the shoes wore out. So I spent $650 for the kit, like Tim says, for the win.
