Hi,
i have a 96 f250 PS with a e4OD transmission, on the way home today I had some issues with it shifting weird, seemed to be in a neutral state at about 35 mph for a moment and then wouldn't shift down. after i stoped at the light i took off and it wouldnt shift, the rpms went to 2000 ish and the OD light was blinking a backed off the throttle and then it shifted fine, I then put it in 2nd manually and back to Drive and the OD light stopped blinking and the truck ran fine all the way home. Anyone have any ideas on this erratic behavior?
BTW, there's 249000 miles on the truck and the whole Transmission was rebuilt 40k ago.
blinking OD light means theres a code stored so look that up, just becuase it was rebuilt doesnt mean it was a good rebuild, theres tons of horror stories of " my rebuild is acting up" blah blah. look up the code and see what it says, ill bet it says TC slip error
I'm with Steve. When you say neutral state, its probably the clutches slipping. Shifting funny is probably limp mode the trans will go into. Get the codes and take it from there. I hope is something simple, I've rebuilt two of these and its not fun.
Mine did something like that and it was a bad speed sensor. The speedometer worked fine, just would neutral out and then slam into gear sometimes. It would also shift early or late many times.
