Huh? Diversions? Methinks you guys haven't been here long enough and seen the
discussions on Mel Brooks movie that crop up....
Well, since you mentioned that...
I just watched The Patriot again a few days ago, and We Were Soldiers is tied for my favorite movie ever. He may be a whack-job but he did have some good movies from time to time
Thanks for the input everyone, im going to attempt to start this feat this week. I have the bed off my 85 already, and the cab is barely on anymore. i would consider just changing out the drivetrain but everything on the 96 is shot besides the body. i realized the fuel sending unit is going to differ, and the speedometer is going to give me problems. Anything else i should keep in mind before starting this? Ive had mixed reviews on this, some people said it can be done with some time, and others told me not to even try it. so im kind of stuck wondering if i should attempt this
thank you very much, this project means alot to me, ive spent the last 2 months in the snow getting getting this 85 to run, and getting everything in order. I Didnt think just replacing the cabs would be such a big deal, but i will look to you guys for help, im gonna post some pics in a min
Campbell87, are you going to keep the older dash in the newer cab or just use the newer dash/electronics?
I am currently doing this with my 84 F250 using a 90 cab. The link Ctubutis posted is what I encountered with whats involved with the dash attachments. There are several older posts that also have more info on cab swaps(including the dreaded VIN issue....)
In all its work and lots of figuring but fully do able! AND it does help if you have a helper to hold things.
thank you eddie, if you stumble across some of those posts on cab swaps be sure to post them. and yeah i am taking everything off the 85 and "attempting" to put on the 96. as for the vin? bah nothin a little duck tape wont hold haha. if anyone has any links to pictures of people removing cabs and whats required that would be great
When I did my body swap, I replaced everything except the cab so I can't be of any real help regarding electrical issues. One thing I have noticed in all my swapping though is that as ford changed things, they still punched all the old holes, just adding new ones as well. The doors for example, the newer ones still have all the same holes to install the brackets to mount the older door panles. The newer fenders still had all the holes I needed to mount the older underhood components. Some of them needed to be tapped but were clearly there. I can't say with certainty, but would not be surprised to find an older dash would bolt into a newer cab.
