So up here in the northernish area..brutal winters hate my ford. I did some body work to make er look good...better. Now that she looks good I am trying to prevent rust as much as possible. An undercoating would be worthless as the underside is rusted.. but the wheel wells and body are all clear of rust (for now). I didnt know if you guys know products that you can put on there to prevent body rust? Ive heard from body people and such that spraying some kind of oil or lubricant to keep from water pooling up in the wells and body stuff will help prevent rust. And Ive heard spraying somekind of oil and going down a dusty road will keep it dry.. I just am looking for some less "backroads" solutions to my rust issue.
Products? Links? Anything you got is good! Thanks yall
luckily i dont have to worry about it being in the south, but i have heard of guys spryaing or misting under their trucks with used motor oil or applying a light coat of general purpose grease to areas that are susceptible to rust.
and bc i know you like to play in the mud, applying motor oil to the wheelwells and fenders will help the mud just fall off, it wont be able to stick for easier cleanup

WHAT..ME..MUD?! NAWWWWWW
Appreciate it fellas. I have heard of that spraying their underbody with used diesel oil... Would you use a pesticide sprayer? Or like a windex bottle? lol
Totally jealous of you for being in the south. My buddy is from Texas. He just bought a NEW (looks newer than mine) 76 F-100 a few months back... its been a texas truck its entire life.. NO RUST.
More than twice as old as mine and mines got cancer
..only on the underbody.
One of the tricks I learned as a kid was to run the car was hose down the stake pocket in the bed. Then drip a little used oil down the stake pockets. Also, I play in the mud a little in the Jeep (but I hate MUD)... sorry... never ever ever let it dry in place. Many corrosive things in dirt mixed with H2O. I don't hate mud for the rust, but I hate packing wheel bearings and hubs. Better things to do on a Saturday morning. Rocks don't lead to packing bearings.
I wouldn't bother spraying oil on the rig. It will wear off and you'll leave a rainbow behind you wherever you go. I haven't heard of Gempler's, but the rust converter stuff works great.
My bruddah does a lot of body work on his cars and rigs and he swears by this stuff:
Yeah, Gempler's converts rust into a primer that can be painted over. It worked pretty well when I used it, but I didn't get a chance to see the long term effects of its use.

Not if you keep it shiny side up. My 48 Jeep is not a daily driver but not a trailer queen. One crushed fender and that is it. The cage has actually saved mine and my daughters life once. I have calmed down now that I have daughters, so more trail riding and getting the heck out of town. One of the reasons I bought my Ford was tow much more efficiently. Still hate mud...
