I guess I thought that by your sig you are looking at diesel but I might be wrong. The chevy diesel van 2011 is a lot better than any ford diesel of the past 10 years. I have the V10 gas Ford 15 passenger and I have 200,000 on one and its a 2002, and I have a 2005 with 60k.
They are great vans. With 3.37 gearing expect 12 in town and 14 on the highway with the v10
5.4 won't do much better, maybe one mpg in each catagory.
The Ford wins in the gas engine van catagory for sure.
Like all one tons having 12-15 passengers the rear tires must be inflated correctly for the load carried. When these tires blow out with a load of passengers they will get difficult to control at highway speeds. Tire pressure is very important.
With good maintenance they can last a very long time.
I don't think Ford is offering a diesel at this time and the 6.0 since like 03 has been a disaster. Most ambulance guys have gone to the Chevy diesel vans and are having a lot less trouble with them than the Fords they also own, have owned, in the past. Just my 0.2 cents
Andrew

it would be a gas vehicle. the only thing i own newer than 99 is a caravan, so i am out of the know on anything new. i am just lookin for opinions on the bigger wagon. when you hit the 12 passenger how is it on room in the rear seats? it will be for elderly, disabled, and others who cant take themselves to and from dr. appmts.

Mechanically the E series are fine; I also believe that seating on both the 12 and 15 pax van were designed for children. Passengers need to be small (and nimble) to fill all rear seating positions.

Perhaps you should look toward the E350 bus configurations for your particular needs.

Alternatively, select the 15 pax van and remove every other bench -this will allow easier access (for nine pax) and room for wheel chairs/air tanks, etc.

What's the questions?
Ford doesn't offer new vans with diesels...

If Ford offered the 6.7 Diesel in the van I'd buy one the day mine dies.

Mine is a 2000 E350 Extended body 7.3 PSD. built Ford tough! 784,500 on it now. As for new Chevy vans being better then Ford vans... How can you claim that w/o proof?

Ford hasn't had Diesels in Vans for a few years now. Not enough room!

The Diesels are to bulky to fit under the dog house.

If a 7.3l turbo diesel 445 cubic inch motor fits in the Econoline... I think most other would too.

It's probably a money issue, not enough sales to warrant more of them. sadly.

No, the newer ones have to much stuff on them, emissions stuff, turbos, etc.

It's not the engine displacement that's to big, it's what on and around the engine that's to much.

Look at how tight an old non turbo 6.9L Diesel is in a older van (1987).
