I am an newbie for 6.0 PSD. I bought my 2006 E350 PSD cargo last year with 125000 miles. Now it is 140000 miles, I will change the coolant soon. However I observe the coolant color is copper and clean; but not yellow. I wonder what coolant in my truck ?
The last owner is first owner and he said the E350 is leased and serviced from Penske CA. I suspected the coolant change had been done before but what in the truck now is my concerned.
Well if it has been serviced at a Ford dealer then it should be Ford Gold Coolant, you should get some gauges the Edge Insight works well to check the difference in your ECT-EOT the max difference is 15* set by Ford, i think if you are close to 10* your coolers are starting to get plugged from casting sand and silicate drop out from the Ford coolant. You need to do a flush and install ELC coolant and a coolant filter to remove the casting sand and other junk in there.
I suspected the the coolant change was done by Penske not Ford.
And maybe the "copper color" is misleading you the coolant condition. In fact, the color is light "pink + orange" as the color of letters I picked.
The coolant is clear, no oil & debuts. I had taken small amount and mixed with new ford gold, VC-7B. The color is no change; and no milky or cloudly occured. I am thinking it is also a HAOT antifreeze but what brandname with this color ??
I got my scangauge last week and the EOT & ECT are 195F-193F at climbing, then back to 175-173 at idle. the max diff is 5F.
Therefore I believe my oil cooler still be fine.
And I search some posts to know Penske use ELC in the fleet service.
My concern was what ELC in my 6.0 PSD or it is orange HOAT from GM.
I will keep it if it is ELC while replace it if it is HOAT.
Please give some advise.
Attached the pic of the coolant in my cargo, the yellow one is ford gold.

If your temp drop back to 175-173 at idle your t/stat must be stuck open because that is to cold, most of the ELC coolants are Red in color.
By the way these numbers are to low (then back to 175-173 at idle.) Your t/stat must be stuck open because it should run about 190* after it is warmed up to cold for a diesel.

Have reply from Penske, they had flushed and change coolant to Rotella ELC @10k miles due to water pump failure.
So, the coolant should be ELC, and it run well to now 140k miles.
Thanks you for your guys help.
Good deal but your coolant to me is still running cold bad on a diesel, i would drain some out and install a new t/stat to be on the safe side. new t/stat from Ford it should all come together (housing-t/stat-o-ring) in a box. The part number is RT-1169
