ect is 170,eot is 183.i know i need a t-stat,and that will be done when i do the flush.once i do the t-stat thatll put my oil temp up to 203 with no load on it with a 13deg spread.i can imagine once my 36ft tt gets behind it itll climb considerably higher.its an 04 with 130k on it.ive personally put 40k on it since ive had it.

Mine was doing the same thing, untill I got the thermo replaced now it is 5-7 apart. I would of thought that no matter what the ect is, the eot would remain close to it unless there was a issue, I guess that is why the bulliten says to make sure the ect i 190 or better before test the diff.

Until you replace the t-stat I don't think there is any way to
predict what your EOT will be afterwards. Some folks have had
< 15* afterwards others have not - I think it all depends on how
the t-stat is stuck & how "good" your OIL cooler is.

I thought I was in good shape BEFORE replacing the t-stat, then
the temps spread on the hiway after about 10-15 minutes (no towing).

Steel i have new oil cooler and thermo can run down road steady 80 plus , outside temps 75 and see ects 203 204 and eots 207 209. Slow it down to 65 and ects 191 195 eots 195 199. I think all trucks very a little

I just flushed mine this weekend and changed out the thermostat as well. Prior to doing so my ECT'S were around 178, EOT 205-215. Now my ECT's stays at 190-191, but my EOT is as high as 225-230 on the freeway, 215 or so around 45 mph. Needless to say, I am getting a new oil cooler installed on Thursday! I was told by a mechanic that if it is showing this much of a difference without a load on your truck, then your cooler is bad and will cause problems with your lower end if it is not addressed. Usually they test the cooler by putting the vehicle under a load going uphill. The scanguage is a great tool, looks like it will help prevent lots of problems for those that use it.

From what I have been advised, the additives in the coolant begin to break down after 2-3 years, this in turns causes the oil cooler to clog over time. So a thorough flush and coolant change every two years may help prevent the cooler from clogging.

Isn't there a rebuild kit available for the oil cooler?. I have no problem with taking it out and rebuilding it.although I did see one on ebay for 100 bucks last night, but you never know what you're getting when you go that route.

There's a fella who has tried (with success) a reverse flush on an oil cooler with everything on the truck. What he basically did is remove the cap on the coolant outlet side of the oil cooler. This is the cap right where the EGR cooler hose connects to the oil cooler. He then fabricated an elbow to snugly fit in the cooler opening and connected the other end to a hose and simply ran water through the cooler. This is certainly worth a shot as the parts and labor to do this are close to free. I suspect with higher oil temps that an oil cooler replacement is in order though. I bought my last oil cooler from Tousley Ford for just under $200 and it included the metal screen.

From what I understand, once they clog there isn't really a good way to unclog it. I believe the new kits just come with a new cooler and gaskets. I used VC9 in my flush, but can honestly say it did not reduce my temps. It did get alot of gunk out so definitely use it. My fluid came out dark at first, but cleared up after 3 flushes with distilled water.

If you flush and find that you have a dirty system it might be worth putting on a coolant filter and running it for awhile before you put in a new oil cooler.I would only do this if your spread is not to much over the limit of 15 degrees. I have been running with my temps eot 25 degree spreed for a year no problems I do have the round egr cooler whitch is more durable. and the filter has been getting system cleaner for when i do change the oil cooler dont want to plug the new one.

Good idea.I've got everything to do the coolant filter and planned on doing it when I did the flush.my egr cooler was replaced two years ago and I probably found out why with the scangauge.guess I just won't pull my tt until I see what the flush and new t stat does for me.

didnt they change the oil cooler at the same time as the egr cooler

13 degree spreed is not to bad on another thread op had a 43-50 degree spread they found that out with a scangauge so i dont think either cooler has blown yet

steelhead2 I would just put the coolant filter on and let it clean for awhile
when i did mine it was dirty to so when i had the thermistate out I stuffed a hose in it for awhile and let it reverse flush for awhile
I know some say to use only distilled water but I dont think the type of water is causing oil cooler plugging fwiw
