Coolant and coolant additaves
Well I just picked up a 96 supercab psd with 119k miles and this is my first diesel so I'm gonna have a ton of questions but here is the first one. Which coolant ahould I be running in my rig. What addatives should I be putting in? I want to flush the system and put in new coolant. How much coolant will I need without removing the plugs in the block? And how much addative will I need? And lastly where can I get the addatives and coolant that is recomended?
Thanks for any info given!

Go to one of the top threads in this forum aka "sticky" and click on the tech/mods info links travis posted. Its alot of reading but will answer alot of questions you may have. Coolant is addressed is steve baz's link in that thread. You need a low silicate heavy duty regular green coolant. Some come pre charged with the additive and some dont. Even if it is pre charged you will need to add some of the additive periodically. I got mine at the dealer and you need test strips to monitor levels. I would pull block drains if you can. I think you need 4 gallons of straight coolant and and 4 gallons of distilled water. If you flush it out with water add the coolant first because some water will be left. Don't do the initial fill at a 50/50 mix. Of course the 8 gallons total is if you pull the block drains. If you don't pull the block drains you will only get about half the coolant out as you will just be draining the radiator which would be kind of a waste. Just my. 02
