I believe a flash is around a hundred bucks.when my plugs weren't working due to a bad pass side batt connection it blew grey smoke like crazy and was real hard to start at 40'. You getting grey smoke?.
With no signs of smoke I think bimic's on the right track here.rev x is a fuel additive that reduces, and sometimes eliminates stiction.I have yet to find an auto parts store that carries it ,I think its an internet order deal.

If you are talking about the glow plug control module, that should throw a code, as should any bad glow plugs: p0671-p0678 for glow plugs 1-8. P0678 is usually the GPCM. I just started getting these codes - I had no trouble starting though.
My cold morning starts have been much better since I switched to 5W-40 oil and got the latest flash.
