had a strange problem this morning got off work (was driving a company box truck last night) so i go to leave the shop and head home i had my truck block heater plugged in as it was right around 0 degrees out it had been pluged in the whole time i was at work, well i get in my truck turn the key on waited for the glow plug light to go off waited a few extra seconds seems how it was so cold out and cranked it, nothing. ok no big deal warm the glow plugs back up and try again same thing well then i notice my voltage isnt droping when i turn the key on so im sitting there then all of a sudden my voltage drops (indicating glow plugs finaly came on) waited a few seconds cranked her over and it fired right up. this is the first time it has ever done anything like this too me.i assume probably the glow plug relay is at fault, does this happing once warrent replacing the relay?
My guess is the GPR is going south on you and since it is around zero there that made the problem rear it's ugly head. Sometimes relays don't respond to cold too well since they have moving parts.
Well i can tell you what i do and it works for me ever since i had this truck i would change 4 glow plugs and the relay every fall i've left my truck out at a jobsite un pluged at -7 degrees and it started.......It has never left me stranded I also cycle the glow plugs twice before atempting to start the truck,,,, so If i were you i would start out with a new set of glow plugs and a new relay BTW I started using the fast relays I think thier better Just my .02
