Hello, I am new to this site but have a friend that has found it to be a huge help for him. I have a 99 F-350 Powerstroke and I lost the ability to use my 4 wheel drive. I replaced the switch in the dash ansd that did not help. My engaged light does not come on in the dash so I am wondering if there is a relay or fuse that runs this. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Check the #17 fuse under the hood fuse box..it is the 3rd one down on left from top..
Do you have owern's guide for your PSD.. if not, i have link to Ford to download one..
And a Big Welcome to the Forum..

If the fuse is blown or the seals are not holding and do not allow the vacuem to work, you should still be able to ingauge them by hand on the hubs. Why did you think that it was the 'switch' that was bad?

Welcome to FTE
by any chance does your air conditioner blow out of the defrost vents? If so, then you are looking for a vacuum leak. If the light is not coming on on the dash then you may need to crawl up under truck and make sure the wiring pigtail has not worked loose from the transfer case.
MY VACUUM PUMP IS WORKING. I DO REALIZE THAT IF THE VACUUM PUMP IS LEAKING THE AUTO HUBS WONT WORK BUT I CAN PUT THEM IN MANUALY BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. THE SWITCH ON MY DASH WILL NOT ENGAGE MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR TURN ON THE 4WD LIGHT IN THE DASH. THE WIRING PIGTAIL IS PROPERLY CONNECTED. IS THERE A WAY TO TEST THE 4WD SHIFT MOTOR? I CHANGED THE DASH SWITCH KNOWING THAT IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THEM TO FAIL. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE SUGGESTIONS.
There are 2 relays under hood for ESOF. One is for shifting from Hi to Low and the other from Low to Hi. You should be able to hear or feel one of them operate when you turn the switch.
This is the contact arrangement for these relays. Bench test them so you can rule them in or out as your problem.
