I have a stock 2WD 7.3 Auto Super Duty. I tow about 10k. The truck has 114k on it. I am looking for small upgrades. Not interested in a chip but was thinking of adding one of those high flow air cleaners. But I was reading that a high flow air cleaner does not really start to work until over 3000 rpm. I generally run under 3000 rprm so, if this is true and I wasting my money. I was also thinking of a 4" exhaust at the same time. If anyone has done this or has input I would like to hear it.
I put a 4 inch mbrp from Riffraff and 6637 filter a year or so ago, money well spent, letting air in, and out, made the truck run a ton better, I have no clue what I picked up in HP/TQ numbers, but it was noticable. And that filter will last 3 or times what the factory setup will as it has a huge surface area as Dan mentioned. I am in a dusty environment here in the west, I change mine once a year because I am a bit **** on maint, but it would go alot longer with no problem.
Ditto! Do it!
I have an e99 also & have done the 4in MBRP & the 6637 intake. You will notice the difference. You may want to consider a 6.0 tranny cooler to keep your tranny cool if you tow alot.
Good luck.

X2 on what Bob said. The 99's do not have a OTW trans cooler in the radiator. Upgrade to a 6.0 cooler, or add an aftermarket cooler in front of the engine fan to get cooling while sitting in traffic.
You can upgrade the radiator to the later style, and plumb in the cooler lines along with a better cooler.
A couple hundred buck can save you a few thousand down the road.
I did the napa 6637 on my 99.5 cc,drw,....I can't say for certain, but it sure feels a bit crisper, I jump on it occasionally (!!!) and although it probably weighs around 8,000#....it jumps like a 5.0 stang, if I had some traction....it would be instant whiplash, there's a lot of performance hidden in these trucks, and this forum is the place to find it....my .02c
