I am having a problem with my 4 wheel drive. The front drive shaft turns, I hear it go in and the light is on in the dash, but I have no 4x4. The back wheels will spin, but I get nothing from the front. Could it be the transfer case or maybe the vacuum lines. I have auto locking hubs by the way. Please help me out, I went to the beach this weekend and got stuck. It was pretty embarrassing. thanks

If your front driveshaft is spinning, then your transfer case is good. I agree with everyone else here, you most likely have a blown hub. You most likely have a front open differential. If only one hub locks in, the differential will send all the power to the one that will spin easier (i.e. the axle shaft of the wheel that isn't locked in). Just like if you get a 2wd truck stuck somewhere and a tire is lifted off the ground, only that one will spin. I hope this helps you. BigB400 could you tell us about your truck like model, transmission, etc.
Auto hubs are known for failing after they get older. Vaccuum lines loose there seal and then your screwed. If theres no grinding sounds coming when you do that no damage is done. But I'd invest in manual hubs. There more reliable and a lot of time stronger.
