Changing VCTS is always a good thing . The newer ones 07 08 's have to pull valve cover . They do varnish up and screens get plugged . It won't fix broken guides or blown tensioner gaskets . Same with roller and lash adjuster problems . During timing job these can be reused ,cleaned if necessary.
But if you shock this system doing an engine flush be prepared to do a timing job very quickly . Running some marvel m oil is a gentler approach . A lot of us run it all the time after engine job . Keep her clean .
To all in this forum ,theres alot of try this try that.i personally spent alot of cash on doing thd whole job oil pump,timing ,phasers,vct,cam sensors ,plugs,wires,spark plugs ,coil packs.my trucks been in the garage for 2 yrsnow cause the problem is still there ,it starts fine but after warm up it goes into where it wants to die at idle if i hold rpms at about 1200 its fine.with that being said does anyone have the answer 104k on my motor i changed oil at about 5k myself every time.my biggest curiosity is will a high velosity oil pump do the trick thanks

Cleaning maf,thottle body is aways good .
But your symtoms are common to a vacuum leak , a homemade youtube smoke machine is a great way to find it . It can be all the way back to the gas tank and parts on rear axle /Of course you should check out your FPDM on rear axle . It will fail sooner or later .
