Man get em replaced. Mine went at 165k. The left bank was almost seized it was so bad. It's not cheap but it beats getting a new motor when they eventually go. My truck ran TEN times better after and havent had a problem since ( at 220k now).

I see everyone talking about their 2004's but no 2005. I have an '05 (October '04 on the sticker for a build date) and was wondering if anyone has replaced these on that model year. I know it's the same motor but just wondering if the success is still there on the '05 replacement.

I am kinda interested in doing this, and have the ability to. Maybe I am stupid but on the tasca parts website I can't find the solenoids and the seals. Do you have the part number Chris? When I search for "vct solenoid" nothing comes back. If you have the numbers that would be great, I just can't find them. I very well might give it a try.

I had a 2004 with loud ticking phasers. I put up with it for many miles. I found a similar story about this fix. I immediately went and purchased them, from Ford. I installed and started up the truck to find it still ticked the same. I was a little disappointed which is why I'm posting this. Maybe not all have the good luck with that noise.

I can't guarantee this will work, but I can see how these would cause a ticking sound. I did this, and to be on the safe side when I did it, I went ahead and changed my oil after a few days... So far still no ticking what so ever. I seafoamed my crankcase as well..

Just use the 5W20 and the motorcraft filters and change your oil regularly, and replacing these sensors is a good idea anyway...

On another forum of a guy who done this. Like I said mine completely did away with the diesel knock. His sounds more like a belt or just a normal injector click.

after I changed the solenoids, without improvment (noise came back) could it be the phazers?, I lose pulling power at about 3000-3500 rpm and dont have much under 2000rpm, just wondering if anyone nows about these things

I changed both Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) solenoids myself, cleared the code, and the CEL came back on after a couple of drives. I see no change in performance, including gas mileage, and have only a slight hint of a rough idle that occasionally occurs. According to everything I've read the next step would be to replace the cam phasers, but before I spend a lot of money having a tech doing that (I don't have the tools necessary to tackle that job), I thought I'd check here to see if there were other options. Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

Replace the cam shaft position sensor, and the problem will go away.

I know several people with 230k on these trucks, and the phasers tick since 90k , with not one performance loss or problem. I'd say that is very possibly related to something else. Clean the TB, replace the gasket on it. Sometimes plugs or coils can cause performance to degrade. At high RPM's like that it could even be a partially stopped up cat. I doubt its cam related... try replacing your fuel filter to. A lot of people forget to do that.

I found what they are calling a camshaft sensor on tascaparts. But its listed at $25. The part #'s shown above dont pull up anything.

Came up for me. Worked fine. Its listed as a Control valve solenoid...

I haven't replaced my Camshaft position sensor. I was replying to the guy about his engine light being on. I know that those codes are normally do to a faulty camshaft position sensor.
