another Intercooler thread.
The junkyard around the corner has a wrecked 01 SD. the left (passenger side) intercooler pipe is missing but the rest seems to be there includinng the rad. before I inquire about it I would like to know what would be a good price for it?
Even MORE STUPIDLY....what exactly is the benifit of having one?....will I be able to pop wheelies? What all do I need to retrieve from the vehicle to make it work?

Haha wheelies would be nice! But unfortunatly are not a direct result of IC'ing. The benefit to having one is lower intake air temps. You can fit more 'particles' of cold air in the same volume of hotter air. The denser the air, the more fuel you can combine to make more power. The colder air also lowers combustion temperature and keeps EGT's lower than without an IC (good if you tow/haul a lot or if you have sticks dumping a bunch of fuel)
The trade off is that you will loose a couple PSI of boost through the IC BUT are cooling the air making it denser. So you may loose some boost but gain the lost power back with the colder, denser air.
I don't have an IC, and don't plan on doing one soon so I can't speak from experience as to setup, but that's the fluid mechanics of it.
Here is some more info

The only noticeable benefit is lowering EGT. I can work mine much harder towing/hauling than before I added the IC. Without it, I had to let up and shift down to keep EGT under 1200F, now I hammer down and go. My towing mileage is worse, but I get there quicker.

Also you need a pipe kit or fab yours and some boots to join them to the IC and the spyder.<O</O
BTW you also can fab your "new" spyder.
