FYI that is the charge air cooler(CAC) tube. The intercooler is up in front of your radiator.
My oil soaked stock boots were so flimsy, that my CAC tube would flop around, resting on, and making contact with the trans dipstick and the glow plug module on the pass side valve cover. The simple brace that I fabbed up stopped this from happening. \
I have since replaced the factory worn out boots with Dieselsite's much thicker, stouter units (and they don't leak or seep oil). These boots are so stout, that I probably didn't need to put on the brace. But I figured with all of the heat cycles they would see, I might as well to stop any potential sagging and keeping it from taking a 'set' that way.0
A pic of the simple one I fabbed up with a muffler hanger and a large hose clamp. Without the muffler hanger, the tube has no give, and when the engine torques, it would only move the boot at the intercooler. The way I designed it, both boots and the tube will move just a little, instead of all of the movement happening at one place.
