I finally installed my gauges today and im wondering about my trans temp. It will start up cold and read 100 after a little driving itll jump to 125 and the gauge doesnt move from there. Im wondering if i somehow hooked up the sender wrong? Or what? When i put it in the hole i used a connector on 18 gauge wire and stuck it between the two nuts and lock washer on the sender. Is this right?
If you used a crimp style connector, you would be better off soldering it as those have been known to come loose, not to mention corrode. Depending on what you are pulling and at what temps 125 could be completely normal.
I was wondering the same thing with my autometer gauges. Rebuilt Trans, tripledisc Billet Converter. Probe is in the side of my aftermarket cast Pan.
The max I see with a stock cooler unloaded is 155 at 45 degree temps. However Towing a 9k boat at slower speeds, I see up to 195 creeping to 200. Hiway it cools down again to 160 even on large grades with a load due to more airflow.
Will adding a larger cooler or 6.0 cooler keep it to cold. I have been told you want to be around 160 for proper fluid lubricity? I fear it may get to hot come summer if I am almost hitting 200 now?

not to hijack,
Thanks a bunch Guys.
Yes you need a larger cooler. Those temps are okay for now, but in the summer you'll toast it. I have a E99 and put the JW trans in with the 6.0 tc and ran it thur the radiator as well. I to see 100 to 125 in these temps around town. But pulling 30ft toy hauler loaded in the summer desert I see around 160. It did go just under 180 one time in August towing in traffic so i'm happy. I to have autometer gauges and they are correct. Before I did the trans and cooler it ran all the time pulling180 to 210 and in the mountain cold on switchback going slow it reached 220 at 20f outside temp do the the TC not locking up. I hope this gives you all the information you need, Chet
I just installed my 6.0 cooler last weekend. It was pretty easy. Allow 2-4 hours depending on your ability. There is a thread on here with pics of how to do it. I got a 3' piece of 1/2' transmission hose, hose barbs and hose clamps. The 6.0 cooler hase 1/2' lines and our trucks have 3/8. You can get a 1/2" barb-1/2" mip and a 3/8" barb-1/2" fip fitting at home depot. You can screw those together to make you 1/2" to 3/8" hose adapters. Or you can order a 1/2" to 3/8" barb adapter online.
My stock trans always ran about 125-135 under no load with the stock cooler. I have noticed already that the new trans with the 6.0L cooler temps sit right at 105. So your numbers to me sound about right. They way you install the wireto the sender is the same as I did also.
