Confused about coolant
I need to change coolant and put in a new thermostat and a new upper radiator hose (the one that goes behind the belt).
Doing the Gooch flush and adding the expensive stuff is not on the list. I just can't do that this time.
My question is which coolant to use: Pre-charged or regular with NAPA cool added?
Which brand?
The truck has green stuff in it now.
Thanks.

Pre-mixed CAT ELC is about $10/gal (CAT store). 8 gals should give you plenty of xtra for topping off in future.
How much were ya gonna spend? Considering you likely never need to flush and change coolant or monitor SCA's ever again - ELC is a bargain!
Also, i always put a petcock valve on the block drain on pass-side. Sure makes flushing easier!

By the time you get the a/f & additive I believe your gonna be real close to the same $$ as getting the 4 - $20 gal ELC

Where did you buy your petcock from? Im getting ready to flush mine and I would to add one to both sides if possible. Can I get them from dieselsite?

Check with local parts stores. Get one like this
and you can put a hose on it to reduce mess when draining.

Yep. 1/4" NPT. Same as most air compressor drains (home cheapo has'em by air tools...)

The block is in the way to use same valve on drivers-side. I bought a different valve once, but decided it was EASY to use the existing plug on that side...
