c6 normal operating temp

I was going to buy a trans temp guage for my 78 f250 with a c6. I was just wondering what is a good operating temperature for the trans and what temp would be overheating. Also the guage is electrical and i am mounting the sender in the oil pan and since the truck is a mud truck would water getting up that high short the sender out or hurt the gauge.

175* is considered normal.

Instead of the pan you could tie into a cooler feed line.

That will give you a reading as the fluid is exiting the convertor and is the hottest temperature.

Stay below 250* or you will smoke it quicker.

well i have to pull the trans anyways plus with putting it into the pan it will more out of the way instead of fidling with trans line. plus the temp sensor will also act as a drain plug.
