After a year of trouble-free operation, I get this code this morning. I looked it up and it seems to be "Fan Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal". Any ideas on what the cause could be. Got back yesterday after towing 10k lbs and the fan operated normally as it came on as few times when EOT and ECT were getting a little high (210 ECT, 218 EOT).
BTW, I can't quite understand the spreadsheet in the tech folder with respect to the DTC's. What does the "G" and the 'g' etc mean. I couldn't fine a key to it anywhere but then again I'm old.
I going to watch it and see if it comes back. I have the EGR delete I get the P0401 and P1000 pretty regularly when I don't have the truck loaded with a tune.
Matt's block the exhaust gas code completley the p1000 is because you clearing them I think and that will clear with a few drive cycles
the fan may be having a harness issue ?
I would check the fan harnes/plug-in first. For whatever reason they seem to break or get cut quite often. I've seen it posted several times on this forum. Not to say that your fan clutch isn't going out, it's just easier than a trip to the dealership.
Thanx all for the replies. Took a look at the thing this morning and it seems as if there is a hard casing that attatches to the fron of the fan hub and exits the shroud into a four wire connector. Could this be the part that gets cut or am I looking in the wrong place ?. Anyway, there's not much I can do today as I don't have a replacement clutch.
On a related note. I've searched the forum on how to remove the shroud to get to the fan clutch. Just a couple of questions if I may.
Can the shroud be removed without removing or messing with the radiator itself other than the radiator hose, the degas bottle hose and the coolant filter hoses ?
Is the 1 7/8 nut right or left-handed?
Without buying the Ford holding tool, how do you hold the fan to remove the clutch ?
Sorry for asking dopey questions but the more info I have the less bloody my knuckles will get.
