I towed my 30' 8000 lb travel trailer to the beach and back this weekend, a 350 mile round trip. It was the first time I have used a ScanGauge II. I was surprised to see the EOT sitting about 30 degrees higher than the ECT. MY ECT stayed between 185 and 198, occasionally hitting a high of 209. The FSS showed the fan instantly increasing and the temp dropping back. The EOT got to a high of 239, the EOTs went up as my speed increased, I kept my speed around 60 and the EOT would stay between 225 and 230. At 65 the EOTs were running around 235.
While driving the truck unloaded yesterday my EOT was about 20 degrees higher than my ECT. Looks like I have some cooler work to do.
Sounds like it but your temp. reports are all over the place. Take the truck on a 20 mile hiway drive till up to temp, and take the temp. spreads at 60 to 65 mph with no hills up or down or cresting. Do not use the stock temp gauges to tell you that the truck is up to temp. They are glorified idiot lights.
I flushed the cooling system with VC-9 and fleetrite something or other.....a year ago. I have a half gallon left in the garage and will get the right name for you tomorrow. My temps dropped to a 9 degree spread. They slowly crept up over a year.
I just put a new oil cooler, coolant filter and IPR EGR delete on a few weeks ago. My temps are within 3 degrees around town and 6 on the highway.
Now if you want to try to flush the cooling system and back flush the cooler before replacing the oil cooler it can be down.
A good friend of mine is a Ford Tech and told me that I should have flushed the cooling system first. Then isolate the oil cooler and pour the VC-9 into the cooler and let it sit over night and flush it with a large amount of water in the morning.
Plenty of threads on this on the site. A few great videos on it to.
