we have one like that next town north. built back in 1857 as a single lane, than widened to two lanes(it's current configuration) sometime around 1920.
here is a picture taken in 1927:
it is TIGHT!!
going through with a pickup or full sized 70's car you only had around 2 inches each side of the mirrors to the walls.
back in the 70's we used to race through the holes. one car each lane. first out the other side was the winner.
i only did it once, that was enough for me. but i saw many a hot race car come out the other end with the sides ripped open by the bricks on the tunnels walls.

That's nuts! This one is close to home, funny thing is, the creek flows in one side, through the tunnel & continues out the other side. There's always water flowing & of course it floods easily.
^^Spent many an hour upon hour in a few local Lum's never ate one of those "beer steamed dogs" though!
Neither did I. My favorite meal there was the fried clams.
Back in the 70s and 80s I was a regular in several of them as I lived and worked in multiple cities. Regular enough to know the staff on a first name basis. One of the waitresses gave me the glasses. Something I appreciate so much more today than I did 20 years ago!
