I'm sad to see that Dale's post was deleted. He wasn't hawking any products, but giving independant test results and general information. I hope some of you got to see the results. If I remember correctly, a stock Ford filter filtered at 99.7% and the Tymar setup filtered at 99.8% with the Donaldson air filter. The K&N was somewhere around 97% and the AFE 94%. The Donaldson filter also had about 4 times the number of pleats as the AFE. The Tymar also showed a lot less restriction than any of the other filters.

Is the AFE only filtering 94%? Should I be concerened that too much stuff is getting past the filter? Anyone using the AFE having any problems? I just purchased this a couple of weeks ago. Would hate to have to eat it on this one and purchase another brand. Any thoughts on this would be of great help. Thanks.

Apparently it is. I was under the impression that it filtered better than that, but the independant tests showed otherwise. The explanation that was deleted basically stated that reusable filters such as K&N and AFE compromise air filter quality in order to increase flow. The Tymar is able to increase flow while maintaining a high level of filtering because it uses a huge paper element. Not to mention their is much less restriction than with the reusable intakes. At 94.something% I would be worried about early turbo failure.

Is there a website to purchase the tymar set up or no and I was wrong about the K&N filter as it does let more air flow in, but it also lets more dirt in as well same with the AFE.
I hate having to eat expense due to ignorance.

After the post regarding the AFE only filtering out 94% I called Advanced Flow Enginering and ask "Eric" about this. He said that it depended on who and how the study was conducted as to the result. He said based on their studies that the AFE filtered at 96% or higher. Better, but still not what I would concider great. I then ask him if the company has ever had a complaint or problem with premature turbo failure as a result of using this product. He said no. Not ever. As much as I would like to, I'm not sure I can believe this. So my question is has any one experienced any problems with the AFE? I'm still not sure if I should if I should change or stay with the AFE. Tymar is sounding pretty good but I just put the AFE in a couple of weeks ago. Love the way it sounds.

I have had the AFE setup on my 2002 Excursion PSD for about a year, and have nothing but good things to say about it. I am actually in process of getting a TYMAR , and will post my results, from seat of the pants to actuall real-wheel dyno Horsepower.....

Independent tests done by any vendor aren't indendent by their very nature. I'll plainly admit I'm biased.....

I find it really hard to believe the AFE filters worse because it's thicker, has more pleats and less seam glue overrun than the K&N. All in all it has more surface area than K&N. I've seen both side by side.

Yup...I figured out what PM was about 15 seconds after I hit "submit reply"! But, thanks anyway.

So, now that I know what PM is, can anyone PM me the web address for the TYMAR intake?

Thanks!
