Question air filters

What type of air filters is everyone using? I currently have 16,350 miles on my original Ford filter. I am looking to replace it with another one that fits in the stock air box. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Heck! I'll reply to your air filter question/poll.

I am using a FRAM presently. I do not recall the part number. I'll toss in that I use Napa Gold oil filters as well on my PSD.

Take care - Steve

I'm using a TYMAR intake system, which uses a big Donaldson filter. Much more air flow, much less restriction, no dirt gets into the turbo. Many other intakes cost more, but none work as well.
Period.

I Using an Amsoil Oil wetted Air Filter on my '99 F250 7.3L.
It costs around $24-ish and you can wash & re-lube it when needed (usually annually). It's been tested against the others (per Amsoil ...of course) and, according to them, it beats the K&N.

No complaints yet.

I would like to hear about this Tymar system from you guys..

As all you PSD owners know, the PSD doesn't breath well from the MFG. Mods to the intake & exhaust seem to do wonders for MPG & power. Ford did make changes to the air intake box on the 2000 & newer (air intakes thru the front grill instead of the wheel well)...supposedly breathes better than my '99.

Note: that FRAM costs around $12-ish from Walmart.

Good Luck
Deano

I don't profess to know anything about the stock intake on the SuperDuties, but if it's anything like the stock airbox on a '94-'97, the opportunity exists for dust to bypass the filter, and get into the turbo. After buying my truck, I opened the airbox to check the condition of the filter. After seeing the trail of dust to the turbo, it took me about 0.0003 seconds to decide that I needed to replace it. The cost of a replacement filter for my TYMAR is just over $20, and I replace it every 15,000 miles. I'm fairly good with my hands, but I don't think I can get a cleanable filter as clean as it was when new.
There. I've given you my $.02. I'd give you more, but I'm saving up for more mods.

Right now all I have been able to use is a K&N replacement filter.
I agree with everyone else if you can change your air filter box unless you have a truck like mine thats hard to find certain performance parts.
K&N or similiar filters like them will breath alot better than most paper filters will.

well when I first got my truck I put a K& N in
it kept getting to dirty, so I went back to a purolater paper filter, worked good for a while.
then a guy with a 97 showed me the purolter round filter mod so I did that. It worked for a while then I went even bigger on the filter. had A PIA to get all of the pieces nessacary

2000 psd slightly altered.

Than most, but not all. The Tymar system flows a lot more air than the K&N and it filters at a much higher rate.

The 1st mod I did to my 2002 was add a AFE Intake system, I also put the holes in my rad support. It added 3mph to my speed thru a test run I use and my mileage increased by about .4-.6 MPG. You definitley hear the turbo more, but not sure that's a bad thing. Ran against a customer's truck that's identical to mine, we used to run neck and neck, but after the AFE, I can pull him by a truck length running from stopight to stoplight. Noticed a bigger improvement at 65-70 mph passing traffic, seems to spool up faster.

I drive on a lot of dirt roads, usually about 80 miles of them a day. would it be safe to use one of the intake mods discussed here? I'm leaning more towards a replacable filter, rather than spend my afternoons cleaning one. thanks y'all...

All the more reason for the Tymar. It reduces intake resistance AND filter.

I snow plow with my truck, How is this filter with water and snow? I am going to install the Diablo Predator so I am looking to inprove the air intake. I have the K&N in my 96 and 99 with little improvements so that is not an option.
