I slid the tailgate off of the pin, put the lock on the barrel with the opening faced towards the pin, then put the tailgate back on and spun the pins around to lock it. It took a little forcing to get it spun around, but it will.
I'm lazy tonight and just briefly read the replies, but am not sure what you would do in the event of dead battery/batteries.
Without battery power the remote (or keypad) does not work and I'm not sure how you get into the truck to release the hood latch so that you could replace them - if you deleted the key cylinder.
This is very easy solution especially on a truck ....instead of jumping the battery you just climb under the truck and put the positive cable onto the starter ....I had to do this on an expedition ..took about 5 seconds and bam the keypads were all powered up .....
You can also add a piece of heavy insulated wire to the + of your battery and drop it through the engine compartment. Insulate the end well and secure it to something you can get to from under the truck. Then if everything goes dead (very unlikely) just hook up another battery with jumper cables or a charger to this wire and another to your frame and you will have enough power to at least open the door locks with the remote or keypad.
