I think our microwave took a dump. Gail accidentally turned it on for 15 minutes with nothing inside, and it shut down...no power, and the vent door is in the open position. I tried resetting the breaker but that didn't do anything. Anybody got any other ideas...other than not turning it on for 15 minuted with nothing inside?
Looked around for a reset button, but I haven't found one. Do these things have some sort of fuse inside somewhere?

I'm not an appliance man, but it may have a thermo protector that'll reset itself when it cools off. It's also very possible that it'll have a fuse inside. At least you know nothing more from this post than you did before you read it.
I take it is a built-in, since you mentioned a breaker. What I know is that countertops are not worth repairing, but a built-in might be.
You may have burned out the magnetron. If so, say sayonara. Just about anything else should be self resetting once it has cooled off. I would not expect a fuse, possibly a breaker, but those normally autoreset.

They sure do. It's either a fifteen or twenty amp, ceramic (instead of glass), regular tubular-type (AGC-type) fuse. It depends on what wattage the magnetron is rated for.
They do blow on occasion, and I always look there first. I replace them for folks maybe once a year.
Too bad we're not closer, as I have some of each in my passenger door pocket.
But they're not all that expensive, something like five bucks for a couple of 'em, available at OSH.
You shouldn't have to solder them in or anything, and should just snap into their holder, but some manufacturers use the ones with solder-on pigtails on either end.
Last time mine farkled, it WAS the magnetron, so I got one and replaced it. I've had the same microwave oven for thirty years, a Quasar that requires no turntable (it has a rotary microwave disperser) that is large enough to roast a small turkey! I love this thing, and will truly cry when it irreparably dies. I have a friend in Port Hueneme that has one, and my mom has one. The friend has two spares in her garage, just for parts, as the magnetron is the last remaining available part.

It happened last night (isn't that the name of a movie? ), so any thermal-reset stuff should have reset by now. It's one of those over-the-range types, and there is a fuse listed for it. I'll have to dismount it to check it out.

We can only hope that it's as simple as a blown electrical supply fuse.
Running the magnetron without anything to absorb the energy creates a high VSWR condition, which reflects most of the energy back to its source (it's gotta' go SOMEWHERE), causing a lot of heat to be built up inside the magnetron. It can potentially damage it, though most modern microwave ovens have some sort of tube over-temp protection. This is not usually a thermal "fuse" (which simply blows open), however, but COULD be.

National anthem, not so good. Maybe if she was more focused on simply singing the anthem rather than her "artistic interpretation" of it she wouldn't have flubbed the words.
